Expose It

I finally started getting more than four hours of consecutive sleep now that my baby boy is older. Having said that, I still cringe if I hear faint cries coming from his room in the wee hours of the morning. No judgement y’all, I’m a newbie mom!

One morning, I rolled out of bed zombie like to get him, but first I staggered my way into my dark bathroom. Guess what I stumbled upon? …a centipede. Scream! Run! Jump! (Insert here whatever you do when you see a centipede). I was fully awake at this point but by the time I put myself together it disappeared, or so I thought.

Lately I’ve been learning more about light and darkness. Apparently light actually travels in waves as opposed to a straight line. Darkness resists light.

Something struck me after seeing the centipede. When I turned on the light and noticed the centipede, it scattered to find the darkest place to hide. Why? Because it thrives in dark places – it’s comfort zone. I didn’t like that, because now it disappeared elsewhere and found another place to hide. So I stomped my foot to get it to reappear, and I saw the yucky thing hustling for comfort.

When we expose the sin in our lives, it resists light. It gets uncomfortable and there’s no place for it to thrive. Sometimes though, it doesn’t leave that easily. It can take a toll on us and maybe hide in other areas of our lives. When we realize the authority we have and declare war by commanding it to leave, it flees. I stomped my foot and the centipede scattered out of there like nobody’s business. He knew he didn’t belong there, because the light isn’t where he likes to be.

So many times in our lives, we allow sin to stay because it gets uncomfortable as we work at exposing it, and we don’t like how that makes us feel. We make a bed for it by creating a place of warmth and rest. By saying “it’s okay this time,” and “next time I’ll expose it for sure!” See the irony in that? We may shake it up a little bit, and it may seem to leave, but it’s when we expose it to light and take authority in Christ, that it realizes it’s been evicted.

So, do what sin doesn’t like. Expose It . Take authority. Don’t tolerate it.  Half the battle is knowing how to fight! I know, I know, easier said than done BUT you are SO worth it!
